Remington® Introduces AR-15 Style of Model 597™ Rimfire Rifle

January 05 2009

Madison, N.C. – Well established in the world of 22 rimfire rifles, the Model 597 family of autoloading rimfires adds full-featured, AR-style versions to its line-up, the Model 597 VTR (Varmint Target Rifle) 22LR in two distinctive configurations. With performance-enhancing features derived from Remington’s platform of R-15 and R-25 modular repeating rifles, these heavy barreled, tack-driving carbines will be offered through Gander Mountain® retailers and available nationwide to dealer network through Ellett Brothers. Initial offerings of the Model 597 VTR include a standard A2 pistol grip and A2 stock version with 10-round or 30-round magazine box (Gander Mountain) and a Pardus collapsible stock option with 10-round magazine box (Ellett Brothers).

With its innovative design, the Model 597 platform starts with our proprietary bolt-guidance system, which features a unique set of twin tool-steel guide rails for better stability, feeding reliability and greater out-of-the-box accuracy. The bolt, hammer and sear of the Model 597 feature an exclusive nickel-Teflon® plating for smooth, dependable operation and an ultra-crisp trigger pull. To assure reliable, long-term accuracy, a permanent rigid barrel attachment clamp is incorporated for positive lock-up.

Building on the core design and performance features of the Model 597, the VTR offerings come equipped with target-style, free-floating 16-inch heavy-contour, clean barrels, constructed of carbon steel with durable matte black oxide finish. Utilizing a Remington-designed kit, this rimfire’s receiver is converted to accept the standard synthetic A2 pistol grip and A2 stock or Pardus collapsible stock; carbine length free float fore-end tube; and 1913 Picatinny rail system for ease of mounting optics or accessories. Stock, fore-end tube, grip and exposed metalwork wear non-reflective matte black finishes. A low-profile 10-round magazine (or optional 30-round magazine); butt stock and fore-end tube swivel studs; and distinctive 597 VTR logo on side plates complete this next generation semi-auto carbine. Both versions of the Model 597 VTR are compatible with 30-round high capacity Model 597 magazines available through Remington Accessories.

Model 597 VTR 22LR with Collapsible Stock – Available to select dealers through Ellett Brothers. This 10-round magazine version features an ergonomically-designed Pardus collapsible stock, constructed of lightweight, fiber-reinforced Zytel®. The integrated slots and multiple buffer tube positions on the stock assembly allow for length of pull (LOP) customization and adjustable sling attachment. Suggested retail price: $445 (#80901)

With its introduction in 1997, the Model 597 semi-auto rimfire rifle was ahead of the competition with its innovative design and accuracy-enhancing features. Now the Model 597 VTR sets the pace again for the 22 caliber market with its cutting-edge, modular look and tack-driving performance.
