Madison, N.C. – In 2006, Remington
introduced a line of bolt action centerfire rifles based on the
classic Model 98 Mauser-style action. These solidly-built rifles
known for their controlled round feed; positive fixed blade
ejection; and inherent strength and accuracy - proudly wear the
Remington Model 798 name and our assurance of quality. For 2008,
three ruggedly-designed and surprisingly affordable versions
join the line-up in a wide array of calibers – the Model 798
SPS (Special Purpose Synthetic); Model 798 Satin Walnut Stock;
and Model 798 Safari Grade. Available in 243 Win, 270
Win, 308 Win, 30-06 Sprg, 7mm Remington Mag and 300 Win Mag in
the SPS and Satin Walnut versions; and 375 H&H Mag and 458 Win
Mag in the Satin Walnut and Safari Grade versions.
At the core of these Model 798 bolt-actions are the rock-solid
Mauser 98 action with claw extractor for true controlled round
feeding; hammer-forged, carbon steel barrels with blued finish;
one-piece solid steel trigger guard/magazine assembly with
hinged floorplate and steel magazine follower; rubber recoil
pad; sporter-style, single-stage trigger with side mounted
2-position safety; and sling swivel studs. Receivers are drilled
and tapped for standard Mauser 98 scope mounts.
Model 798 SPS (Special Purpose Synthetic) – This durable
version features a weather-resistant, black synthetic stock with
clean 22-inch carbon steel barrel on standard calibers and a
24-inch barrel length on the magnum offerings. The receiver and
barrel have a blued finish. Available in 243 Win, 270
Win, 308 Win, 30-06 Sprg, 7mm Remington Mag
and 300 Win Mag. Suggested retail price: $527 - $570
Model 798 Satin Walnut Stock – Housed in a satin-finished
American walnut stock, this version offers a more traditional
look and feel. Each action is epoxy glass bedded to further
improve shot consistency and accuracy. Available in 243 Win,
270 Win, 308 Win, 30-06 Sprg with shorter
22-inch barrels; 7mm Remington Mag and 300 Win Mag
with standard 24-inch barrels; and 375 H&H Mag and 458
Win Mag with 26-inch barrels. Suggested retail price: $648 -
$1040
Model 798 Safari Grade – The time-proven Mauser action is
famous for its performance on the world’s toughest game and now
we offer an affordable, factory-built version for your next
African safari. The action is fit into our RealWood® “B” Grade
Walnut laminate stock. The Safari Grade stock features Realwood
construction, a process that bonds two pieces of high grade
walnut and one piece of maple with carbon fiber reinforcement.
The result is a handsome, extremely durable wood stock. The
compact 22-inch rifled sighted barrel is ready for those up
close encounters or with the receiver drilled and tapped, adding
a scope is easy. Available in 375 H&H Mag and 458 Win Mag.
