2006, Remington introduced an extensive line of bolt action
centerfire rifles based on the timehonored Model 98 Mauser
action – the Model 799 Short Action Mini-Mauser and the Model
798 Long Action. This classic-styled action is known for its
controlled round feed and positive fixed blade ejection;
strength and reliability; fast lock time and inherent accuracy.
Joining this exceptional line of rifles for 2007 is the Model
798 Stainless in seven popular chamberings: .243 Win,
.25-06 Rem, .270 Win, .30-06 Sprg, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag,
and .375 H&H. This bolt-action is the first-ever, production
stainless steel Mauser offering in the long history of this
classic action.
These high-performance rifles feature solidly-built receivers
and hammer-forged barrels constructed of durable stainless steel
with non-glare satin finish. Standard calibers feature a 22-inch
clean barrel while the magnum chamberings sport 24-inch clean
barrels (.375 H&H has rifle sights). The barreled action is
housed in a Monte Carlo CNC-inletted and glass bedded wood
laminate stock for improved accuracy. Constructed of attractive
forest green, gray and brown laminates, this durable stock is
enhanced with cut-checkering and provides added protection from
the rigors of hardcore hunting. Receivers are drilled and tapped
for standard Mauser 98 scope mounts. Additional features include
one-piece solid steel trigger guard/magazine assembly with
hinged floorplate and steel magazine follower; one-inch rubber
butt pad; sporter-style, single stage trigger with tang mounted
2-position safety; and sling swivel studs.
At the core of the Model 798 Stainless Laminate is the
rock-solid Mauser 98 action with claw extractor for true
controlled round feeding. This time-tested design remains the
platform of choice for many of today’s production and
custom-made bolt action rifles.
