New for 2009, the innovation continues with the 12 gauge Model 870 SPS ShurShot™ Super Slug.

The Model 870 Super Slug is the latest advancement in slug gun technology.  For the ultimate in accuracy potential, the extra-heavy one inch diameter, 25 1/2-inch barrel features the revolutionary Ultragon™ rifling.  Having six oval-shaped lands and grooves and no sharp corners allows for a better gas seal and less loss of pressure, which equals higher velocity and better accuracy for today’s high performance sabot slugs.  The barrel on the Model 870 Super Slug features five longitudinal flutes for heat dissipation, while enhancing barrel rigidity and it is pinned to the receiver with a special set screw to eliminate movement.  This gives the gun the capability to produce MOA groups at 100 yards using Premier® AccuTip Slug ammunition. 

The Super Slug’s ShurShot synthetic pistol-grip stock provides both right and left-handed hunters with a rock-steady hold and awesome maneuverability, while the extended fore-end offers a more secure hold, particularly in inclement conditions.  Black rubber overmolded grip panels complement the Mossy Oak® Treestand® camo finish on the stock and fore-end.  The new SuperCell™ recoil pad utilizes an interlocking matrix of millions of proprietary polyurethane “SuperCells” to harness and distribute energy over a much longer time period, resulting in dramatically reduced felt recoil when shooting hard-hitting loads. All ShurShot stocks are supplied with molded-in swivel studs. 

The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts (Weaver #429M rail included with each gun) and the “Super Slug” logo is laser engraved on the receiver and barrel.
